Downpatrick Head
Downpatrick Head is a rock formation that stands just off the west coast of Ireland. Dún Briste, which is Gaelic for ‘Broken Fort’, was once joined to the mainland of County Mayo. The sea stack stands 45 meters tall. The surrounding cliffs were formed around 350 million years ago during the ‘Lower Carboniferous Period’, when sea temperatures were higher and the coastline at a greater distance away.
